"Obake Yashiki" (Ghost House), artwork by Priscilla Otani & Judy Shintani sound installation by Amar Chaudhary. An atmospheric space in-between worlds is glimpsed in this installation. Fragments of sound from crickets, chanting monks and Japanese instruments envelope Japanese lanterns, womanly silhouettes and floating deteriorating kimonos. Obake Yashiki or Ghost House, is a dwelling place of spirits that continue to haunt us. The closing reception will feature a butoh dance performance from 1:30-2PM.

The Starry Plough, 3101 Shattuck Avenue, Berkeley, CA.
Rock Lotto, curated by Moe! Staiano, features over 20 musicians from rock, jazz, noise, and various subgenres thereof. Participants submit their name and the instrument they play. Then the names are drawn from a hat to form bands. The bands have about a month or so to write about three to five songs, or about a 20-minute live set, and then everyone gets together to rock in front of an audience.

CCRMA celebrates the start of the 2012 season with Transitions, two evenings of outdoor, under-the-stars concerts showcasing music from the CCRMA community. Friday's program will explore live interactive performances and the diverse ecology of musical performance systems that dwell at CCRMA, as well as a networked collaboration/broadcast with Mexico's Radio UNAM. Live electronic music will be Friday night's focus, with a range of new works featuring mixed instrumental and electronic performance, group improvisations, and new musical interfaces.

The Skronkathon returns after a year hiatus, with a full day of new music, BBQ and fun. Program goes from about 1PM to 10PM with numerous members of the Bay Area new-music community. Amar Chaudhary and Maw Shein Win will perform a music-and-poetry duo at 5PM. There will be lots of silver.

One night only Night Light: Multimedia Garden Party blankets SOMArts in site-specific luminous art installations, live music and performances, digital and cinematic projections and sound sculptures by more than 50 Bay Area artists. In addition to light and sound sculptures, projections, and ambient performances, Night Light features five experimental audio-visual performances by Mauricio Ancalmo, ENTOMO, Amar Chaudhary, David Molina and Surabhi Saraf from 8:30pm to 10pm.
