One of many photos I took at the Mare Island shipyards en route to one of our Reconnaissance Fly recording sessions. There have been a few of them on recent Wordless Wednesdays. Some, like this one, were done with Hipstamatic. Others were done with the DSLR.
I was going through most of my urban or industrial Hipstamatic photos for a commissioned piece (video + music) I am doing at SOMArts in San Francisco on April 27. For those of you in the area, you can find out more here.
Beautiful! I love the contrasting colours and the crispness of the blue sky. I think it is wonderful how you find such gems in urban settings. Happy WW
Actually, they are not building anything. This was a major naval shipyard in the mid 20th century that has since been closed, but many of the buildings and structures remain.

I have never been there. Seems like lots of photo-ops as you described.

The Hipstamatic worked really well here. Great shot — the shipyards look deserted but yet the shot still gives the feeling of a lot of activity. Nice.

By “deserted” I meant closed for the day.

I love the effect with the Hipstamatic! I love the contrast of colors on the shots. The blue, the red, really great shot, the color “pops”!

great shot as always!

That is a great picture. Took me some time figuring out what it is. Anyway, I do like it. Take care.

That’s a rather strange picture and makes me wordless !

so what are they building? Great use of color with the lines of the crane.

Good luck with the commissioned piece; I’m assuming you’ll be doing the music, too?!? What a wonderful opportunity!

Yes! Wow.

What a neat picture. The brightness of the sky kind of gives emphasis to the shipyard being closed…

Love the saturated blue!

Looks like an interesting place to visit. I love what you did on the photo. A late visit for RT2.
Mine’s here.
