I am guessing the incline of the upper bridge is so things could roll or slide from one building to the other.
As far as I know, this is no longer a department store or any type of commercial building. At least one of the buildings attached to the bridge appeared to be residential. I think it would be cool to live in or next to the bridges.
That is great to have two bridges going across. What fun. I bet it is tilted like you said to roll things from one building to the other. Great picture.

I think I kind of remembered seeing these bridges as a kid. I was fascinated with them too, but now I can’t remember exactly where they are.

I, too, was struck by the lack of parallel lines in the bridges. Rolling through the passageways is exactly what I was thinking!
