One of many photos from a session this past weekend in Oakland. This one was taken along train tracks in East Oakland, not far from the Fruitvale BART station.
I will probably post more photos from this session here and on flickr – and look for a related “Fun with Highways” article in the near future.
For some reason I love graffiti, how it expresses the painter’s opinions and feelings, the distinctive colors and styles and its urban look. I also love that all cultures have graffiti in some shape or form!
I’ve always been a fan of graffiti . Who ever does these are awesomely artistic. I also let my kids draw and paint on their walls while growing up and have even painted on mine sometimes. We have a half bath with a plank ceiling so have painted (with black light paint) as though it is underwater beneath a pier with mermaid behind the door you only see when it’s closed, crab on the commode seat, seahorse and jelly fish and other fish on the walls an d blue and green icicle lights for the water. Now a friend is trying to commission me to do something in her house.
Many years ago, my Mommeh used to commute on BART from Walnut Creek to Oakland, and she remembers seeing many skerry things, including a sort of burned-out building with a creepy mannequin inside. Maybe that was just a dream though.
I have always been fascinated by graffiti (unless someone is doing it on one of my friend’s houses, which sadly happens here in east baltimore) and I think I could stare at this for hours.
Cool graffiti photo! Thanks so much for stopping by and linking up. Don’t forget to come back tomorrow and see if you guessed correctly for the mystery photo. Have a great day.
Graffiti like all art is in the eye of the beholder… if it defaces another piece of art or someones home w/o permission, that is just sad and wrong… but there are some that are beautiful beyond words !

Wow — some graffiti is so detailed and colorful. Hard to believe it is done on the fly.

I love this! I love grafitti – I had a popular grafitti artist tag a shirt for me which has been framed and is hanging in my living room.
But this photo to me seems so beautiful and yet so sad.
Feel free to pass by – my WW is something I’ve had since I was a kid: http://www.herdeepthoughts.com/2010/08/wordless-wendesday-dont-grow-up-so-quik.html

This wall could stand everywhere. Some of the graffitis are very artistic, but unfortunately not all !

I like how you can see the different styles next to each other.
