The Vaillancourt fountain at Justin Herman Plaza in San Francisco, set against a clear blue sky.
This fountain has been the subject of some controversy (then again, just about every modernist landmark in San Francisco is the subject of controversy). There have even been calls by some to tear it down. I personally find it quite beautiful, and love the play of lines, angles and textures. It is a great photographic subject, and also nice in real life.
Oh wow, I love that! (I guess I’d be one of those taking a stand in favor.)
I was only in Ireland for five days, the rest of the hiatus was because my parents were in town, Passover prep, kids on school vacation, etc. Lots of real life getting in the way.
I don’t know why people are so uncomfortable with abstract art. If it’s not something identifiable, they have trouble seeing the beauty. Love the shot!
It reminds me of the the bridges and overpass torn apart by the ’89 Loma Preita earthquake.I can see why it might bother some folks for that reason. But it does have a kind of art to it.
I’m not usually a fan of modern art, but I like this fountain. Thanks for stopping by earlier in the week & letting me know about the Safari glitch with my site. Funny thing is I’m on a Mac too but I use firefox so I had never noticed the problem. Now to figure out how to fix it…
It is a neat fountain because it does not look like a fountain
People probably want it to look more “traditional”, but it would not be as interesting!!
I remember that one! Haven’t seen it in a while. I’ll have to look for it next time I’m nearby. It reminds me of a giant air duct spitting out water! Thanks for stopping by my WW

I think I’d have to see it in real life to be a judge. It does look rather big…but then perhaps it really is nice in real life.

It is quite large, about two stories high. There is a catwalk about halfway up, actually.

It does look as tho its about to fall down but perhaps that is due to the angle of the picture taken?

I don’t think I’ve ever been on the catwalk to take a closer look at the fountain. Did you ride on the zip line?
To answer your question, yes, there are “live” people on the overhead trams, but they weren’t in my pic.

I am on my net book and can’t really see that it is a fountain. But if you say it’s pretty I believe you, lol !

I too would be in favor — I love the textures and the angles.

I think it is pretty, but I would be afraid to walk under it!

I love modernist works with water. You always see something different from every angle!

Whenever we go to SF we always stay at the Hyatt. I think the hotel has a view of this fountain or some similar works of art.

I think this is creative art.

Nice, very nice. Looks like a good place to be in a hot summer day.

I knew that was in SF! My ex-girlfrineds dad worked next to it. Is there a crepe place right by?
