This was a vacant lot across the street from my hotel in Anaheim, California. The overrun pavement, palm trees, and 1960s architecture of the nearby building seemed very photogenic, and a very iconic image of California in 2010. It is also a canvas of sorts for some of own visual ideas. I could do a lot with this lot (no pun intended) without having to build on it or even resurface it. It just is.
I like the look of this lot with the building behind it.
Thanks for visiting mine and to answer your question it was at the Amy Aldrich Rockefeller Folk Arts Museum and Dewitt Wallace Decorative Arts museum in Williamsburg, VA. The two museums are housed in the same large building so I can’t remember which one it was in.
to me, this pictures isn’t just representative of CA in 2010, but the whole country. I feel like I see the same themes here on the east coast. bright colors and life next to abandonment.
I love it! I esp. love the blue building in the background. Its a great contrast in color and emptyness. It actually makes the lot itself stand out even more.

Interesting subject. Vacant lots are kind of like blank canvases I suppose.

Pretty amazing to find a lot which hasn’t been built on in California! Great discovery!

I seem to have an aptitude for finding empty lots, even here in California

Looks so sad !

I love how the building at the background frames the entire photo!

What a great building in the background – the combination of the blue and the palms seems to almost form an arcade.

Are they retaining the building or maybe nobody has money to tear it down now and rebuild?
January 27th, 2010 at 2:19 am
Actually, as far as I know the building in the background is still a functioning hotel. It just looks out onto this lot.

I like the contrast between the blue building and green palms

There is one! Looks like a great spot for a game of Wiffle Ball.

Excellent subject. I like how nature doesn’t wait long before it starts to reclaim the earth!

It’s justv a pity it stays there for no use – except photography

Bittersweet picture.

Do you think they would mind if I “borrowed” those palm trees?
I wonder what that lot is worth?
I have a linky up for WW if you and/or your readers would like to link up!

It would be nice to do something with the lot. Maybe turn it into a playground.

It would be interesting to see what it looks like five years from now huh.
