The jamLink from MusicianLink allows musicians to play together from different locations via high-speed internet. Below we see two performers onsite at NAMM jamming with a guitarist in Plano, Texas, which was 1438 miles (2312 km) away:

The performance was relatively tight, though one could hear a slight bit of delay or hesitation on the first beat of some measures.
I have actually had a chance to glimpse the jamLink during its development, and would like to use it in the future. At the moment, however, it is doubtful that the network service at CatSynth HQ is up to the task.

Cool stuff. How was the sound? Did it sound as if he’s right there in person or a bit ‘muffled’?

The sound quality was quite good, not at all “muffled.” The main issue is timing (latency and jitter). The jamLink does a relatively good job of dealing with timing issues, provided the network has high enough bandwidth and reliability.

Thanks for stopping by the booth. The sound quality was at 44 kHz, which is like a CD. And Mark the guitar player was 3X the distance we are currently recommending for jamming, which is 500 miles. I think we did successfully demonstrate that you could play with someone 1500 miles away. At greater distances, we are saying that the jamLink is better suited for collaboration, song writing and giving lessons. The other guy we played with was Dan Meblin who was in Novato, CA. His cat was hanging out with him : )
